Wrapping Up 2020: A Look Back at the Year

This crazy year is (finally) coming to a close, and it’s got me thinking about the last year. While it can be easy to get stuck on all the negative things that happened throughout the year, it’s also important to reflect on the good.

It definitely wasn’t an easy year, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some highlights along the way.

The last year challenged me to get out of my comfort zone and led to a lot of personal and professional growth. There may have been some setbacks, but I was lucky enough to have hit some pretty big business milestones in 2020.

Scroll below to see some of my accomplishments and proudest moments from the last year.

New Website & Logo

One thing I’ve learned from running my own business is that it can be hard to find the time to work on your own projects.

For me, that was my website. It was in desperate need of an update and I finally made it happen early this year.

Not to toot my own horn, but I’m pretty proud of the redesign! Shoutout to Squarespace for making creating a website so easy!

And of course, thanks to Cyberdogz for designing the perfect logo!

Thrive Global Feature

I started 2020 off with a bang and was featured in an interview series by Thrive Global called “From Avocation to Vocation: How I Turned My Hobby Into a Career.”

It was so fun to share how I got started as a freelance writer, what I’ve learned along the way, and my plans for the future!

Guest Appearance on the Brand Retro Podcast

Like I said above, 2020 was a year for getting out of my comfort zone!

Client and friend, Mike Brevik of Cyberdogz, invited me to be a guest on his new podcast, Brand Retro. Despite being nervous, I had a great time and I ended up joining Mike for two more episodes.

We covered:

Authority Magazine Interview

I was invited to participate in an interview series by Authority Magazine focused on strategies female entrepreneurs use to improve their wellbeing and thrive both personally and professionally.

This was a really fun and thought-provoking interview to take part in! It really made me examine my habits, how I react to stress, and reflect on the things that have brought me joy since I started my journey as a freelance writer.

This fall, I had the pleasure of helping Tauer Inc. revamp their website copy.

It was great getting to know the owner, Joey, and learn more about his and his team’s experience in the home building and remodeling field.

They’ve worked on some pretty cool projects, such as this mid-century modern remodel in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

100 Best Websites For Writers in 2020

My blog on freelance writing and running an online business, The Quiet Type, made The Write Life’s 2020 list of 100 Best Websites for Writers.

Getting on the list was one of my biggest goals and I’m thrilled to have been included. I owe that accomplishment to the amazing readers that took the time to nominate The Quiet Type.

Thank you for your support!

Wrote More Than 10 Million Words

My nerdiness is really showing with this one, but hey, I am who I am!

Grammarly has this cool feature where it tells you the number of words you've written each week and over time.

I might be one of the few people who see it as a personal challenge, but it helps keep me motived to write. It totally paid off, too.

In 2020, I more than doubled the number of words I wrote the year before, surpassing 10M words!

That’s a lot of writing, my friends!

Even though there were plenty of highlights, I’m excited to officially call a wrap on 2020. But, before I do, I want to say thank you to my amazing clients.

Without your partnership and support, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do. Although there’s no telling what the new year will bring, I look forward to continuing to serve you!

Cheers to 2021!
